Autologic Diagnostics, in partnership with the WORLDPAC Training Institute (WTI), hosted their fifth annual National Conference and Tech Sessions (NCTS) at The M Resort in Las Vegas March 6-8, 2014. 260 people from across the US and around the globe were in attendance.
The NCTS kicked off Thursday March 6th with an opening evening reception at Lux on the top floor of the M Resort, followed by two days of intensive training and a closing dinner on Saturday March 8th.
Autologic training included BMW, Mini, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Land Rover, Volvo and Volkswagen/Audi car lines. WORLDPAC Training Institute (WTI) provided advanced technical classes on BMW, Mini, Volvo, Mercedes, and shop management.
New in 2014, the NCTS introduced three “hands-on” demonstration classes including Mercedes Engine 272 Repair with Jeff Henschel, 722.9 Transmission with Nathan Canson and BMW Panorama Roof with Luke Murray. All three proved to be a huge success!

The Charitable Foundation of CARQUEST and WORLDPAC recently made donations to over 18 local food banks covering every city where WORLDPAC Canada has a branch. Donations ranged from CAD $1,000 to $500. Each dollar donated to a local food bank is the equivalent of $5 worth of donated food.

Over 1600 WORLDPAC customers and VIP guests joined an elite group of suppliers and top WORLDPAC sales and management staff for an unforgettable seven day Alaskan voyage alongside soaring bald eagles and migrating humpback whales. Destination highlights include Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and the Tracy Arm Fjord as well as Victoria, BC and Seattle, WA.
WORLDPAC's Fantastic Voyage Alaskan Adventure provided customers with a unique opportunity to join other premier North American service repair professionals and industry leading manufacturers in an unforgettable setting. The event was comprised of two days of intensive training classes that covered BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Porsche, Land Rover, and Volkswagen/Audi carlines, as well as WTI classes on BMW, Mini, Volvo, and Shop/Business Management. Over 240 people from across the US and around the globe attended, some from as far away as Jamaica and Australia.

The NCTS event kicked off Thursday March 14th with an evening reception in the Conway Room. Hors D'oeuvres were served while attendees mingled with Autologic technicians and staff, many putting a face to the voice they've heard over the phone for so long.
Training classes started early Friday morning and, for the first time, featured a four-hour class format which allowed for more class options and maximum training. Attendees selected up to four classes for a total of 16 hours of training. Many WTI/WORLDPAC training options were also available including special guest instructors Eric Scharping teaching BMW Active Chassis (the only eight hour course that was offered); Allen Osborne, Luke Murray, Drew Wolfe and Cecil Bullard teaching classes on Volvo, BMW, Mini, and Shop Management, respectively.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Four automaker (OEM) executives presented revealing details about their requirements for service under their dealer franchise agreements. Five aftermarket experts followed, by examining the current status of service-readiness among independent shops. This unique conversation between OEMs and the aftermarket is a hallmark of the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF), the group says, and unfolded before a diverse industry audience on Friday, March 8 during VISION2013 at the 2013 Spring NASTF General Meeting in Overland Park, Kan.
Kelly Geist, service engineering manager for Subaru; Mark Saxonberg, service technology manager for Toyota; Bob Stewart, aftermarket service support for GM and Jim Von Ehr, manager, technical information and serviceability for Nissan, each gave valuable insight into their service department business models.
Saxonburg said, "The availability of service information doesn't, itself, make a tech service-ready." He listed five additional resources as necessary: factory diagnostic functions, product knowledge, tech assistance support, factory parts options and a commitment to learning.
Stewart extolled the benefits of GM's long-term strategy in technician development demonstrated in GM's ASEP (Automotive Service Education Program), which is a partnership with their dealer franchise spanning from high school through a tech's working career. Geist described Subaru's requirement of minimum tool investments from Toughbook laptops to some 400 special tools costing about $50,000. "We roll out about 20 new special tools a year and they are shipped automatically to our franchise dealers," said Geist.
Von Ehr described the Nissan MSTR (Minimum Service Training Requirements) and showed its positive correlation to the F-1 scores (Fixed Right the First Time Score) for Nissan dealers. In closing, Von Ehr argued that the industry needs more than just highly qualified techs. "We need more techs at all levels," he said. "With the right training requirements in place, we'll get more highly-qualified techs from that larger pool of techs."
Bob Augustine of Christian Brothers Automotive, Bob Beckmann of Beckmann Technologies, Aaron Cherrington of Identifix, JeffMinter of Madison Technical College and Rusty Savignac of Paxton Garage, followed the OEM Roundtable and dug deeper into solutions for closing the service-readiness gap among independent shops.
"It's harder today to fit all the necessary training into just a two-year college program," said Minter. He's concerned that education is too focused on pattern-failures and not enough depth in system understanding that would be useful in developing diagnostic skills. Cherrington pointed out that today's techs must be resourceful. "A 2010 Ford has about 11 million lines of software code," he said. "A tech today must have information partners."
Augustine encouraged shops to develop a "training roadmap" with compensation incentives for higher skill levels. Savignac, who operates Paxton Garage in Massachusetts, contends that independent shops must accept responsibility for turning tech school grads into qualified techs. "My two best techs came from post-secondary schools and got OJT, refined," he explained. Beckmann is a Euro-specialist and contracts to assist shops withservice in advanced systems not yet mastered in their shop. "One difference that separates troubled [shops] from successful [shops] is their attitude toward asking for help," said Beckmann. "The successful will reach out for help quickly."
"NASTF, too, needs to reach out," said Skip Potter, NASTF executive director, announcing his recent membership in the Automotive Training Manager's Council (ATMC). "It is NASTF's strategy to engage with them to efficiently and effectively close the education component of the service-readiness gap. In fact, we seek partnerships with any industry organization that has the existing mandate and resources to help close the gaps between dealership and independent capabilities."
In addition to the complex service-readiness topic presented during the Spring 2013 NASTF General Meeting, NASTF Chairman and President of the Equipment and Tool Institute Charlie Gorman presented "Why Automakers Should Support Aftermarket Telematics," pointing out that quality new cars sold by today's OEMs are becoming quality used cars serviced in the aftermarket.
"Embracing aftermarket diagnostic solutions pays dividends because it makes for happy owners, and happy owners have a tendency to become loyal to the brand," Gorman said. September 14, 2012 – WORLDPAC Supports CARQUEST Canada Charitable Golf Tournament
On September 5th about 130 golfers headed to the links at Springfield Golf and Country Club in Guelph, Ontario to attend CARQUEST Canada’s sixth annual Golf Tournament. The tournament supports the Charitable Foundation of CARQUEST and WORLDPAC.
Golfers were given a chance to "Beat the Boss" as they teed off against CARQUEST CANADA President and CEO, Steve Gushie. Prizes were also awarded for closest to the pin and the longest drive (although the Hole-in-One prize remained unclaimed yet again).
After the day of golf the players, including Jason Yurchak, VP of WORLDPAC Canada Sales and Operations, had dinner at the club and the attended popular Silent Auction which raised even more funds for the Foundation. As a result, more than $20,000 was raised for the charitable Foundation of CARQUEST and WORLDPAC, bringing their six-year total to over $120,000. The money supports educational and non-profit projects and programs in communities across Canada.

August 28, 2012 – Peter Klotz, VP, WORLDPAC Advanced Planning and Global Supply, Passes Away
It is with a heavy heart I announce the passing of Peter Klotz, our Vice President, Advanced Planning and Global Supply. All of us on the WORLDPAC Team are deeply saddened by the loss of a special colleague, friend and admired teammate. Peter was with us for a short seven years and his contributions were instrumental in our success and will continue towards our future success. His overall dedication, commitment, knowledge and experience in building WORLDPAC to be an industry leader will be missed. Peter was a key driver of several strategic projects including our Global Sourcing initiatives, developing Quality Control Assurance standards and recruiting key global suppliers.
Peter was greatly admired and well respected throughout the industry. He started his automotive career at Denso, as Vice President-Aftermarket Planning Group. Peter introduced the Denso independent aftermarket program known as ‘Denso First Time Fit’ brand products. He was an active member and contributor with the Auto International Association (AIA), Vice Chairman of the AIA Executive Leadership Council and Chairman of the Awards Committee.
All of us at WORLDPAC will greatly miss his fun loving spirit. We all have been fortunate enough to know and work with Peter, a very dear friend to all of us.

March 20, 2012 – Autologic Diagnostics Partners with WORLDPAC Training Institute (WTI) and Direct Capital for the 2012 National Conference and Tech Sessions (NCTS)
Autologic Diagnostics, in partnership with WORLDPAC Training Institute (WTI) and Direct Capital, hosted its third annual National Conference and Tech Sessions March 8-11, 2012 at the M Resort Spa and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Doubling in size from the previous year, the 2012 NCTS, as promised, proved to be the biggest and best yet. 300 attendees from across the US and around the globe were in attendance. Some came from as far as Australia and New Zealand to be part of the event.
The NCTS was comprised of 2 days of intensive training classes. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Land Rover, and Volkswagen/Audi lines were covered, as well as WORLDPAC classes on BMW, Volvo, and shop management. Along with the training classes, Open Sessions were held for Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche providing the chance for greater personal interaction.

Saturday's classes included Volkwagen/Audi taught by Gary Machiros, and featured WORLDPAC classes. Special guests from WORLDPAC were Eric Scharping teaching BMW Engine III; Allen Osborne and Jimmy Abercrombie teaching Volvo; and Scott Wheeler teaching Increasing Sales Success. Also on Saturday were the Open Sessions for Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, and Porsche. WORLDPAC's involvement with the NCTS demonstrates the on-going relationship between Autologic and WORLDPAC in delivering top notch technical training to Autologic customers.
At the closing dinner, Peter Toland, managing director of Autologic Diagnostics, addressed the audience and thanked everyone for attending and making the event a great success. Toland also thanked WORLDPAC and Direct Capital for all of their support, and everyone behind the scenes who ensured the event went smoothly. He also announced that while next year the event will be back on the east coast in Orlando, in 2014 the Autologic NCTS will be brought back to the M Resort in Las Vegas.

June 14, 2011 – WORLDPAC and Demandforce Announce Strategic Partnership for Automotive Aftermarket

WORLDPAC's fourth customer cruise event set sail Saturday March 12, 2011 for eight spectacular days of seafaring through the western Caribbean & Central America! Over 1200 WORLDPAC customers and special guests joined an elite group of suppliers and WORLDPAC's top management and sales staff for an unforgettable experience in exotic ports of call including Cozumel Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama.
WORLDPAC's Fantastic Voyage provided customers with a chance to get together with other premiere service repair professionals in North America, industry leading manufacturers and the WORLDPAC team. Customers attended the event from 45 states within the US including Canada and Puerto Rico.
The eight day customer appreciation event treated guests to numerous cocktail parties, nightly cabin gifts for all customers, over 150 special raffles prizes including $500 gift certificates and Apple iPad's that were raffled off and awarded over the course of the cruise. Also included were exclusive bingo with thousands of dollars in cash payouts, a live auction with over $25,000 in prizes, cabin credits, supplier presentations and Q&A sessions with Bosch, ContiTech/CRP, Denso, ZF Group North America (Lemforder, Sachs, Stabilus), Textar/Pagid, Gates, Delphi, Bosal and Mann!
To make sure guests experienced nothing less than an exceptional event, a dedicated onboard cruise staff was available exclusively for WORLDPAC guests. As well, every WORLDPAC guest stayed in a balcony cabin with a fantastic view of the ocean and ports of call.
